Tampa Bay Millworks Interior Bifold Door Introduction

As mentioned in the door introduction page.

A BIFOLD DOOR consists of a pair of panels that collapse together to maximize the opening width.  In the image above you will see 4 panels, this is a double bifold which contains 2 Bifolds riding on the same track. A single bifold would be only one pair of folding Panels. as seen below.

An important aspect to know is there are 3 different options let's get into the make up of each door.

MOLDED BIFOLD DOOR:

The molded bifold door come in hollow-core it is comprised of a Primed Molded MDF Skin, an engineered wood frame and dense foam supports where needed.

STILE AND RAIL:

The upgrade to the standard is the STILE AND RAIL the illustration below shows the components involved in assembly.  What the illustration doesn't mention is the species or the options the doors come in.  If you are painting the door the common option is the Primed MDF which skins over a stave core.  The other option would include wood species like Birch, Pine, Alder, Maple, or Oak.  Most people choose the MDF for its price-point is fractional compared to actual wood.  The wood surfaces are stainable and this in most cases this is the reason people choose wood. (for the ability to stain).

FLUSH BIFOLDS:

Flush doors are without a design somewhat of a smooth surface.  Only in a hollow core these doors are commonly used.  

A person that may want this door would be because of its affordability or that it gives the wall a continuation of smooth undefined design blending the comfort of a room.

SPECIALTY BIFOLDS:

These consist of anything from glass inclusive bifolds in wood, aluminum, or steel.  The price-point on these are usually the highest but give the finest of quality and satisfaction as a result.
